General Information
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is defined as the use of technology for the delivery of healthcare services when the healthcare provider and patient are not in the same physical location. This includes professional consultations, office and other outpatient visits, psychotherapy, psychiatric diagnostic interview examination, and other services conducted via interactive telecommunications systems. Such interactive telecommunications systems comprised of “multimedia communications equipment that includes, at a minimum, audio and video equipment permitting two-way, real-time interactive communication between the patient and distant site physician or practitioner”.
Is telemedicine legal?
Yes. Telemedicine is recognized and regulated by state, federal, and licensing board regulations. To meet and exceed compliance requirements, AbilTo allows its therapists to see clients only in the states where said professionals are credentialed.
Is video-chat therapy effective?
Yes, peer-reviewed and published studies from leading institutions show video- chat therapy is as effective as in-person treatment. Online counseling also increases client retention, reduces costs, and allows mental health providers to expand their practice. However, online counseling is not a replacement for in-person help, and we do not recommend it for clients in crisis or with severe conditions.
How are AbilTo programs delivered?
AbilTo programs are delivered via video-chat, utilizing a client team comprised of a therapist and coach. For each AbilTo program, the therapist and coach individually meet the client once a week for a fixed duration. An advising consultant supervises each client team for quality assurance purposes.
What is the difference between a therapist and a behavioral coach?
A licensed therapist focuses on the emotional and cognitive treatment of the client and the coach functions in a supportive role, helping the client to set and accomplish his or her stated goals.
What are the qualifications of the therapists and behavioral coaches?
A therapist is a licensed professional and most AbilTo therapists are Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW). AbilTo coaches come from a variety of backgrounds but again, most are pursuing Masters level counseling degrees.
What kind of therapy does AbilTo use?
AbilTo programs are based on a scientifically validated approach called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT); it focuses on helping you to change unwanted behavior quickly and effectively. CBT addresses your current symptoms and not necessarily explore the historical origins of your issues. To utilize such scientifically proven techniques, AbilTo programs are standardized and conducted in a manualized setting. As a provider, it is important to follow the manual as closely as possible to ensure the client’s progress. Program manuals have been created for each of our program offerings.
What are AbilTo’s current program offerings?
AbilTo treats ADD/ADHD, panic disorder, and issues in transitioning to motherhood. Each program offers clients a set price for a fixed duration delivered on a convenient schedule, including evenings and weekends. Please see the “Programs that Work” section of the website for more information.

Do I have to work a minimum number of hours per week?
There is no minimum hour work requirement. Providers set their availability to conduct client sessions for the month. Attending your scheduled sessions is very important. Except for extreme and special circumstances (e.g. death, family emergency etc.), failure to attend a scheduled session without 72-hour notice to your advising consultant will result in automatic termination.
